Know That There are Different Facials out There
It’s easy to get confused or even overwhelmed with all the different facial services out there today. When it comes to determining what your skin needs here are some things that you need to consider, what issues you have with your skin, what you are trying to target specifically, and what results are you looking to obtain. Keep in mind, you have to be realistic as well. As nice as it sounds, one facial isn’t going to solve all of your skin problems. So when it all comes down to choosing the right facial for you here are several things to keep in mind.
The Two Types
There are two different types of facials. First, there’s the relaxing kind that involves chilling out on a table and having your face massaged with luxurious creams ... essentially, think of a spa. Then, there are those driven by results. These are meant to treat and change your skin, which they do.
Most people lump all facials together, and then may not get the experience they want. So choosing one of the two paths is probably the first key decision to make. Regardless of what type of facial you choose or what your skin concerns, there are a few key elements that should always be present. There should be a deep cleanse, and there should be a proper professional exfoliation in there... some would argue exfoliation is the key to all successful facials (for me, it depends on the skin issue and skin type!)
And then serums and any skin-healthy ingredients should be infused into the skin. If you’re going the more traditional facial route, make sure to go somewhere that’s using high-quality professional ingredients to drive hydration into the skin, and exfoliate the skin properly.
Understanding the Basics of a Facial
A multi-step skin treatment is one of the best ways to take care of your skin. This includes cleansing, exfoliating, hydrating, nourishing, etc. Along with masks, moisturizers, serums, and SPF’s we want to help promote a healthy and clear complexion. The benefit of this includes preventing premature aging, promotion of blood circulation, reduction of acne and acne scars, and detoxifying of the skin.
Know that not all problems are fixed with one facial. You should be keeping up a regular regimen of receiving facials as well as consistency with your skincare at home. The truth is that 80% of the progress is from your at home routine and 20% from inside the treatment room. Getting your skin on a daily regimen that targets your skins needs and problems will dramatically improve the appearance of your skins texture and overall health. Talk to your aesthetician about what products you should be using at home to achieve optimal results. If you’re still unsure of what facial you should receive, know that it’s okay to feel a little overwhelmed with all of this information.
